Skalnaté Mountain Lake is in elevation of 1751 meters in Skalni dolina (dell) right under south cliffs of Lomnicky stit. The original name of this mountain lake was Lomnicke pleso. Tatra´s artery passes Skalnate pleso. The artery is a comfortable route from Hrebienok via Lomnicka vyhliadka, the seddle under Svistovka to Brncalova chata (chalet). Skalnate pleso area is considered as the best one for down-hill skiing in the High Tatras mountains for its excellent conditions. A slope under Lomnicke sedlo (saddle) and Francuzka mulda rank among the best parts here. A local grand slalom course is very famous as well.
